Nawab Md. Rahmatullah Khan Sherwani is a person of diverse interests. He loves sports, perticularly Cricket and Tennis. Before it's ban, he was also an avid hunter. He has a passion for reading. He also collects books in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, English, Hindi, Pashto, Turkish etc. His personal library,known as Muzammil Library, has been assiduously built by him since 1960. At present it has more than 2500 books, journals and rare manuscripts. The Manuscripts themselves are about 2200 in number.

The Pro-Chancellor has a unique flair for Persian and Urdu Versus. He specializes in identifying and correcting Versus which has become proverbially attributed to another poet. He has helped renewed scholars such as the late Mr. Malik Ram to identify the poets of several verses. His compilation of such verses "Awaragard Asah'ar" has also been published.

Pro-Chancellor has written a number of articles about Dr. Zakir Hussain, Nawab Ali Yawar Jung, Prof. Rasheed Ahmad Siddiqui etc.
